Bogus official steals from pensioner

A MAN posing as a utility worker stole cash and jewellery after duping a pensioner in Latchford.

The attacker, claiming to be working for the water board, forced his way into the home of the 75-year-old on Thelwall Lane at 5pm on Friday.

She asked for his identification, but police say he distracted her and got in, saying that the water needed turning off.

While there he again distracted her by fiddling with the taps and the toilet before stealing the cash and jewellery.

He was spotted later in Thelwall Lane and Nook Lane.

Police say the man was white, in his 30s or 40s, around 5ft 9ins, 5ft 10ins, and has a stocky build.

He was bald and had a local accent and wore jeans, a t shirt and black gloves.

Anyone with information should call DC Stuart Eales on 0845 458 0000 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111.

The same thing happened to my mother in law a few weeks ago. Fortunately they were caught, although what sentence they will get is hardly worth holding ones breath for. Please, everyone, inform your elderly relatives that no one needs to enter anyones house to disconnect utilities. All services are networked and can be disconnected from outside.
