Parker facing ban over repeat of 'WWE' tackle
Rob Parker
Rob Parker

ROB Parker could face a five-match ban after allegedly committing a repeat offence of the tackle that angered St Helens boss Daniel Anderson three weeks ago.

The Wolves prop has been summoned to an RFL hearing in Leeds tomorrow night, Tuesday, after a video panel decided he had used an 'alleged dangerous tackling technique contrary to true spirit of the game' in the 36th, 66th and 70th minutes of Friday's match at Wigan.

The tackles were not put on report during the game but have been categorised as a grade D offence, which brings a ban of between two and five matches.

The challenge, which involves wrapping his arms around his opponent's chest and both legs around his opponent to drag them to the ground, put Parker in hot water after Wolves' home match against St Helens three weeks ago.

A similar challenge in that match caused Saints prop Maurie Fa'asavalu to leave the field injured and left Anderson complaining that the tackle was more at home in WWE wrestling than rugby league.

Parker was sent a warning letter by the RFL regarding the tackle, telling him that any repeat offence would be viewed seriously.

As a result, the alleged repeat offences at the JJB Stadium are likely to see Wolves lose another senior player when they are already depleted because of injuries.

It's getting a bit boring now every week we get a jobswoth looking at games and punishing players, yet every week we get diabolical refereeing decisions that potentially cost teams points in the table. And before Mick the Stains fan comes on and accuses me of sour grapes these decisions are going against every team in the league. Players have a split second to make a judgement yet video refs have all the technology and all the time they want and still can't get it right. I wonder if they get sent a letter or get dragged down to Leeds for a hearing when they make an error?, I think not.

Nothing wrong with the Cumberland Throw though is there? If I remember correctly Alfie Langer used it all the time to bring big forwards down.
