Man caught with meat
A PROLIFIC thief has been put on a curfew and ordered to pay £60 after his 36th conviction.
Stephen Thompson has 120 offences on his record, of which 69 are for theft.
On April 3 he tried to steal £76.99 worth of meat from Lidl but security guards saw him and got the goods back.
They alerted town centre CCTV operators who spotted Thompson and called the police.
"What we can't allow to happen is for people to think they can carry on stealing with no punishment for it," said district judge French.
Thompson must be in his home, on Lodge Lane, from 8pm to 8am every day for the next three months and pay £60 costs.

36 convictions and 120 incidents?? I think it's Judge French who needs the curfew, preferably between the hours of 8:00am and 8:00pm. Un-believ-able!!
This moron (the crook)is another example of what's wrong with today's society. It makes me [bold]so[/bold] angry .. I'm almost tempted to turn to a life of crime ... the court costs were less than the value of the meat he tried to nick!!! This could ONLY happen in the Untied (sic) Kingdom!

Obviously when it comes to doing potential bird, this fella doesn't think the steaks are too high to prevent him recommitting.

With sentencing like this no habitual criminal is ever going to stop. They need to add an extra month to a custodial sentence for each previous convivtion in cases like this. It costs a lot to jail someone, but costs more not to in the long run.
