A BIN man who could not get his refuse removed has rubbished his treatment by Warrington Borough Council.
Christopher Acton has been a bin man in Warrington for the past 19 years and was outraged to receive an enforcement notice saying he could be fined up to £50,000 for leaving bin bags outside his home after the refuse wagon destroyed his bin - twice in one month.
The 48-year-old, who lives on Winwick Road with his wife Janet and their three adult children, said while they were waiting for a replacement bin they were forced to leave their rubbish in bin bags outside their home, which fellow bin men refused to collect.
Mr Acton said: "They knew full well we didn't have a bin. This absolutely stinks and if it's happening to me, someone who knows the whys and wherefores of refuse collection, what hope does anyone else have?"
Mrs Acton, a 45-year-old housewife, said she had put out 12 half-full bin bags on Friday to compensate for their missing 360 litre bin.
She said: "We hadn't had a bin for a fortnight. I reported it through the proper channels and nobody told me how many bags I could put out.
"The same bin men who saw our bin chewed up refused to take away our rubbish. It is crazy to think a bin man can't have his rubbish removed."
The family has now had the rubbish collected but they are still facing enforcement action.
A spokesman for the borough council described the situation as unfortunate'.
He added: "The containers were replaced within 10 days of each incident being reported, in line with the council's performance criteria.
"During this time the resident was informed that she could instead put out three normal sized refuse sacks, which would then be collected.
"The resident chose to leave 15 sacks out on two separate occasions, which resulted in her being contacted by a member of the enforcement team. This is standard procedure in all instances of potential fly tipping."

What is this country coming to? We should never have allowed these jumped up wannabe dictators to get to the stage where they can actually threaten ordinary people who just want their rubbish removed.
This morning I read that they’re now also refusing to collect from the sick and elderly unless they provide a doctor’s note to prove they can’t take their bins to a common collection point.
I think it’s time that the people of this town stood up and demand that the council take actions to stop such over the top rules and regulations.

so what if he does pay his council tax!! doesnt mean he can leave a potential health hazard on the street! how would you feel if you lived next door to it? has this guy not heard of recyling? or the local tips for excess bags...

I reckon there's two issues here:
Why does the council need 10 days to replace a wheelie bin (and who care's if they hit their target by getting him one by then - they were the one's who broke his last one! surely they'd pull their finger out and get him one quicker?)
But why is a family of five generating 6 bin bags of rubbish a week? Since they are all adults they should be aware of the responsibilities to recycle, plus why did the woman leave them half-full - that's just daft.
Where I live it does my head in when people just dump bags in the street. It's thoughtless. Why didn't the family keep them in their back yard until they got their new bin?

He's just unfortunate he got no brainers of bin men on his round. Totland/Shorwell Close have brilliant refuse collectors. What goes around, comes around (wonder if he has ever done anything like this on his round), I bet he's a little Hitler also.

I think the reason for only half filling the sacks is probably to stop them bursting open with too much weight. The wife used to be good at doing that and I’d end up with a boot full of stinking garbage. In any case, two half-full bags are a lot easier to carry that one that’s bursting at the seams.
I think if there’s one thing that this story demonstrates it’s that the problems aren’t down to the bin men but the little Hitler’s running the show. Sack em all and get some people with common sense in.

What else is the man supposed to do ?
well the coucil is at fault for not delivering a wheelie bin. and i think that the man is right over sticking to his priciples.
After all going to the guardian did get him a bin delivered.

Pilot schemes ahead of their introduction are going ahead in 12 areas of the country, despite Gordon Browns decalration that bin taxes would be scrapped.
